What actually closes

Government offices and banks close on all national holidays. Restaurants, hotels, and major tourist sites in Skopje and Ohrid generally stay open, though smaller family-run shops may close, particularly around Orthodox Easter and Christmas.

Worth planning around

Republic Day (Aug 2) and Independence Day (Sep 8) both fall in the busier summer travel window and can mean fuller accommodation.
